Research

My research has been focussed on application and its scope has been interdisciplinary, interconnecting with a wide range of fields - from socioeconomics to different environmental sciences. However, the science of hydrogeology has always been at the core of my work. Most of the scientific research I have carried out is related to hydrogeology at the regional scale, i.e., related to catchment-wide problems rather than to more local challenges (e.g., concerning a single well, etc.).

My research interests cover:

  • climate change impacts on groundwater resources and water supply,
  • integrated water resources management,
  • groundwater modelling (flow and transport) on the local and regional scale,
  • groundwater-surface water interactions,
  • applications of geophysics in groundwater assessment and development,
  • statistical evaluations of observed changes in groundwater systems (quantity and quality),
  • regionalization of local groundwater observations for characterization of aquifer systems, and
  • integrated groundwater monitoring strategies which utilize a combination of field methods to investigate soil, groundwater and surface waters.
