Earth Sciences Research

The Department of Earth Sciences has a strong research profile within two themes: climate and geology.

Theme Climate

The theme focuses on climate change, variability and impacts from the past to the future. Five research groups have developed strongly. While specializing in different aspects in climate science, they interact to provide an integrated view on the subject.

Regional Climate | Urban Climate | Land Use and Climate change | Road Climate | Ocean Climate | Paleoclimate

Theme leader: Professor Hans Linderholm

Theme Geology

All minerals and metals that we need to support our society come from mines in rock or sediment, and many of the risks which threaten our wellbeing have their origin in the geological environment.

Precambrian Geology | Mineral Geochemistry | Quaternary and Environmental Geology | Geophysics | Hydrogeology

Theme leader: Professor David Cornell

Skogaryd Research Catchment

The Skogaryd Research Catchment is part of the Swedish Infrastructure for Ecosystem Science (SITES). SITES is a national coordinated infrastructure for terrestrial and limnological field research, consisting of nine research stations covering the different landscapes and climatic regions in Sweden. Read more about Skogaryd

Gothenburg University Laboratory for Dendrochronology

The Gothenburg University Laboratory for Dendrochronology (GULD) is a fully equipped laboratory for tree-ring research, focusing on reconstructing regional climate variability over the last millennia and investigating the long-term evolution and variability of the large-scale circulation in the atmosphere and oceans.
