Om Tobias Rütting

I am a biogeochemist working on the dynamics of the nitrogen cycle in soils by use of stable isotope techniques (isotope labeling and compartmental modelling). My special research interests are:
1) Global change effects on soil N dynamics;
2) Production processes of the potent greenhouse gas nitrous oxide.

My work is conducted in natural and managed ecosystems, ranging from boreal to tropical climates. A combination of field and laboratory experiments are conducted.

Overall my research is governed by the need for an appropriate representation of the soil N cycle in ecosystem models to achieve reliable predictions for global change scenarios and to develop N2O mitigation strategies. My work aims to provide the conceptual background for the improvement of ecosystem models.
